Pomacea species

Pomacea canaliculata and Pomacea incularum two species of aquatic snails, which are commonly known as applesnail or siput gondang emas in Malay language. These large freshwater snails are said to be imported from south America.

They have become pests especially in rice fields, where they feed on young rice seedlings. They are problematic because of the economic losses they inflicted and control is difficult. The snail lay their eggs above water level.
