Cinnamomum Plant



Cinnamomum zeylanicum (sinonym: Cinnamomum verum) is a plant of the family Lauraceae. The bark has been used as herb and spice throughout the ages. The plant shown here is found at a high point of the Crocker Range that is traversed by the hazardous mountain road connecting Kota Kinabalu and Keningau.

Daerah Keningau pada suatu masa dahulu terkenal dengan pokok kayu manis atau lebih dikenali sebagai "POKOK KONINGAU" oleh penduduk tempatan.  Kayu Koningau ini memang terkenal di kalangan penduduk tempatan sebagai bahan rempah dalam masakan sehingga mendapat jolokan "Raja Rempah Ratus".  Kemasyhurannya  telah menarik perhatian ramai saudagar-saudagar asing untuk memperdagangkannya di pasaran antarabangsa.....

(The District of Keningau was wellknown for Cinnamomum plant. In fact the local population used to call the plant as "Koningau plant". Traditionally, koningau plant's bark has been used as an integral ingredient in food preparation. This has promted the local population to label it as the "King of spices". Its usefulness has led to the involvement of foreign traders in exporting it to the world market....)
